A Braun Ambulance Tradition: Sponsoring the EMT of the Year Award

December 07, 2015

Braun EMT of the Year Braun Industries VP of Sales & Marketing, Chad Brown, presenting award to 2015 EMT of the Year, Glen Anderson

As a family owned and operated company, we have a several long standing traditions we honor year after year. Once such tradition is the sponsorship of the NAEMT EMT of the Year Award. Through a partnership with NAEMT and EMS World, we were pleased to participate again in 2015 to honor award winner, Glen Anderson.

The 2015 NAEMT/Braun Industries EMT of the Year award was given out on September 16, 2015 in Las Vegas at NAEMT’s General Membership Meeting and Awards Presentation. The winners were also recognized during the EMS World Expo opening ceremony on September 17, 2015. The awards program was established to recognize outstanding achievements in the EMS profession. Along with the EMT of the Year Award, other awards were given out for Paid EMS Service of the Year, Volunteer EMS Service of the Year, Paramedic of the Year, Learning Educator of the Year, and Military Medic of the Year.

The 2015 NAEMT/Braun Industries EMT of the Year award winner was Glen Anderson, EMT. Mr. Anderson is Deputy Chief of Bridgewater State University Police Department. With over 30 years of experience as an emergency medical technician, Mr. Anderson is well known in his community. As such, he was nominated by colleague, Lt. Matthew T. Rushton, for “his commitment to developing a wide range of emergency medical services for the students, staff, and faculty” of Bridgewater State University. Most notably, these include purchasing and licensing the university’s first ambulance, launching their EMT program, deploying an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) program, and initiatiating CPR and First Responder training. Glen also introduced Naloxone ( better known as Narcan) to help university law enforcement offices combat the rise of Heroin overdoses, and was instrumental in policy development related to mental health issues. He currently serves as an active member of the BSU CARE Team, a multidisciplinary team of experts and points of contact that intervene daily on behalf of students.

The EMT of the Year award recognizes an emergency medical technician who demonstrates excellence in the performance of emergency medical services, with their primary role being that of prehospital patient care. Mr. Anderson was certainly a nominee well suited for the honor. During his time with the university, he’s trained more than 1,000 community members in first aid and CPR. He also earned recognition for saving the life of a member of the BSU community in 2011.

“I was certainly very honored by Lt. Rushton’s nomination,” Mr. Anderson said. “It’s a great community and it has been a great honor to be able to serve it, as well.” He credited the support he received from Bridgewater State University, Police Chief David Tillinghast, and the department for the award. “Make no mistake, it’s a team effort,” he said. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the team.”

Please join us in congratulating Glen Anderson on his achievement by commenting on Bridgewater State University’s Facebook page here!

Congratulations Glen! We look forward to seeing what else you accomplish and are excited to see who steps into your shoes as the 2016 EMT of the Year!
