From coast to coast, Braun Ambulances are sold and serviced by our extensive dealer network. We have so many great partners, we wanted to feature each Braun Ambulance dealer on our blog so you can get to know them better. We're starting off with Bulldog Fire Apparatus, the Braun Industries dealer covering Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Bulldog Fire Apparatus is located at 17 Winter Street, Woodville, MA 01784-0058. It is currently owned by Jeffrey R. Mazza, but it has a long tradition of serving the EMS industry, particularly fire departments. In 1933, Clarence Farrar purchased a horse and buggy business in the village of Woodville, a section of Hopkinton, MA. There, he began manufacturing Farrar fire apparatus and continued to do so up until 1986 when he died. His fire apparatus were generally placed on commercial chassis, but the Farrar company did custom builds as well. Clarence was one of the first people to put a front mount pump on a fire truck and the brand was well respected in the industry, paving the way for a professional reputation that continues to withstand the test of time.
In 1986, the company - and facility that once housed it - became EJ Murphy under the ownership of Edward J. Murphy. EJ Murphy continued manufacturing the Farrar fire apparatus under the EJ Murphy name and sold Pierce fire trucks. In 2005, Edward Murphy sold his business to Jeff Mazza whom renamed the company Bulldog Fire Apparatus. Jeff has a unique background, beginning as a welder and working to build fire trucks under Ed Murphy at another company called Continental. After spending 20 years on Wall Street, he decided to return to his passion, and the EMS industry, by purchasing Bulldog Fire Apparatus.
Today, Bulldog Fire Apparatus manufacturers their own brush breaker. They also do tankers and skid units and serve as the local KME dealer. To better serve fire departments operating rescue teams, they picked up the Braun ambulance product in May 2011. They are particularly excited to start the new year and grow the rescue vehicle side of the business through this new partnership.
The dealership has a great staff of knowledgeable ambulance salesmen to serve their area. This includes Dave Rich (Sales Manager), Kenneth Franks, Seth Knipe, Barrett Johnson, Andrew Stevenson, and Glenn Silvia. The quality of Braun's product line is what attracted them to become a dealer; their customers have been more than impressed by the emergency vehicles they are now able to provide. Fall River Fire Department, a Bulldog Fire Apparatus customer, recently switched to Braun after 20 years of running a Horton due to the quality and innovation of the line.
Aside from selling emergency vehicles, Bulldog Fire Apparatus is also exceptional at servicing them. The location has over 25,000 square feet where a team of 15 qualified service professionals provide mechanical, chassis, paint, and body work. They are a Certified KME and Braun Warranty Shop with EVT and ASE certified technicians, certified welders for both steel and aluminum structural work, and certified painters for PPG, DuPont and Sikkens.
