Tomorrow is Emergency Medical Services for Children's Day and so far in our series on pediatric ambulance units, we’ve featured Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Today, we’re talking about Carle Arrow to close out our feature on CCT transports just for littles. It truly is an out-of-this-world ambulance, and we were proud to deliver it earlier this month.

Carle Arrow Ambulance operates under the medical direction of Carle Foundation Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center in Urbana, Illinois. They serve patients in Champaign, Dewitt, Douglas and Vermilion Counties. Carle employees and physicians joined together to raise funds for this emergency vehicle under their Philanthropy’s Employees Giving Campaign.
Dedicated to mother, baby, and children’s medical transport, the new state-of-the-art specialty care transport vehicle was unveiled to the public on May 1st and put into service on May 8th. It will be staffed by paramedics, EMTS, a critical care nurse, and a respiratory therapist. It will transport high-risk patients from hospital to hospital, and is expected to serve more than 1,000 patients per year.
Mounted on a Ford F-450 chassis, the Braun Chief XL ambulance has several notable features. It includes a Federal EQ2B Electronic Q-Siren and Norcold refrigerator. To reduce road noise, there’s a sound deadening package. To increase patient comfort, there’s a blanket warmer located inside of an interior cabinet. An LCD fixed DVD monitor was installed in the ceiling near the rear entry doors and has dedicated DVD player speakers as well as Bluetooth integration for patient entertainment. Lastly, the pediatric ambulance is decked out in an impressive custom graphics package centered around a space theme.

The exterior of the unit reads “Future Astronaut Inside” and reinforces Carle’s mission of helping ensure children receive the proper care to help them grow up and be whatever it is they want to be. We are extremely honored to have worked on their new unit and cannot wait to see what else this amazing organization does through their charitable giving!
